Jayne Shackleton at Carlton Lodge

New team member at North Yorkshire Youth and Carlton Lodge Activity Centre to support growing Youth Participation network. We have appointed Jayne Shackleton as our Youth Participation Worker within the Youth Development Team at Carlton Lodge. Jayne will be supporting colleagues in the Youth Development team to create initiatives to give young people in the area more opportunities to give their own voice about their needs. Jayne’s appointment follows on from her experience of working with young people in several roles in the past including the Community Intervention Service and Family Outreach Service of North Yorkshire County Council where Jayne was a pastoral mentor. Jayne said ‘In my short time with NYY I have been fortunate enough to meet some fascinating young people and volunteers alike. I look forward to meeting many more and working closely with them to develop voluntary youth participation in the area’. Jayne will provide a wide range of services including supporting volunteers to set up and sustain voluntary youth provision and facilitating the building of confidence and empowerment amongst the youth network in North Yorkshire. The network is a volunteer scheme for young people in their local community. Adult volunteers offer their time to assist young people and listen to any concerns they may have and help them to learn social and people skills that in turn builds their confidence. It’s fantastic we have been able to recruit such an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate person and it is a great pleasure to welcome Jayne to the team. This is particularly important bearing in mind the challenges young people are currently facing. I certainly feel they will make a huge difference to communities and the young people they support’.
