David Sharp Introduces the Carlton Lodge Decarbonisation Plan

Video Transcript:

Hello, I’m David Sharp, chief executive of Carlton Lodge Activity Centre in North Yorkshire and I’m here to present our decarbonisation plan for Carlton Lodge Activity Centre which is a leading outdoor activity centre in North Yorkshire providing activities for children people.

Our mission is to inspire teamwork personal development and love for the outdoors but we also recognise our responsibility to operate sustainably and reduce our environmental impact activity.

The Centre comprises five main buildings some of which date back to the 1800s with their most recent renovations in the 1990s and as a result, our buildings suffer from poor insulation and inefficient single glazed windows leading to significant heat loss and high energy consumption. Currently our site is heavily reliant on gas fire boilers for heating with gas accounting for over 70% of our total energy consumption.

Our comprehensive strategy for decarbonisation is built on a fabric first approach ensuring our building envelope is similarly efficient before integrating new low carbon tech technologies are roadmap to net zero include two key interventions.

Firstly, a significant upgrade and expansion of our solar PV array.

Secondly a crucial window replacement program that we are specifically seeking funding for the most essential and cost-effective measures that will deliver the greatest immediate impact.

These priorities measures amount to a capital request of £101,000 significant initial cost means that Grant funding is absolutely essential for us to proceed as a chargeable organisation with limited capital reserves investing in carton logs.

Our decarbonisation journey is an investment in a greener future and the education of future generations. We have conducted feasibility studies with designs and cost models already in place making these measures ready to proceed we believe the supporting carton will not deliver significant environmental benefits but also provide a powerful living example of sustainability in action for the thousands of people who visits each year.

We ask you to consider our funding application applications which allow to put these long-term goals into place at the centre can be environment is sustainable and give the option to young people for many years to come to enjoy the outdoors thank you for your time and consideration.
